The weather gods were with us and another sunny sailpast was held.
Thanks once again to our sponsors for supporting our log book and reciprocal moorage at Pages.
Thanks as well to the Gabriola Power Squadron for bringing "Li'l Gabe" their boat that doesn't float to our Sailpast, a great nautical addition!
For everyone at the Sailpast, you know we now have a great new burgee, thanks very much to Regan Lall for all his efforts to give us one of the nicest and finest burgees on the West Coast. For those that were unable to attend, contact Regan or Sylvie directly for their new burgee,
available at a cost of $35.00.
Also for those unable to attend, a log book will be mailed to you. If you wish to have an additional log book, they are available at a cost of $5.00 each. Again, Regan & Sylvie would be the contact.

Happy & Safe Cruising

Sailpast 2011 has come and gone. Thank you to all who participated and thank you to those who did a "rain" dance the night before. We could not have asked for a better weather window. A number of you said "thank you" to me and I do appreciate your comments but you do need to know it was a combined effort of all members of the executive, so please pass the thanks around.
Can you believe, we are almost 1/2 way through the year and we still have 12 events to go. Our next cruise is June 18/19. It is the Cowichan Bay Boat Festival with "Zero Waste" as a theme. Watch your inboxes later this week for detailed information.
Following the Cowichan Bay cruise is our belated (July 2) "D" dock Canada Day corn roast. SBYC members on "D" dock in Silva Bay Marina will be hosting SBYC members to a corn roast and appies. Details to be posted in a couple of weeks.
Please book July 9 and 10 for the annual Mystery Cruise. It is my chance to leads you all astray and I will do my best! It is a fun weekend and nobody ever gets lost, just a bit confused.
July 23/24 sees us off to Chemainus for the dinner /theatre presentation of "Fiddler on the Roof".
NOW THE IMPORTANT PART: We are again heading to Vancouver for the Celebration of Light" on July 29-Aug. 1. I have booked 6 berths to date so feel free to let me know if you plan to attend so I can book more berths if required. Full details will be coming closer to the event.
ALSO IMPORTANT: The "Star Spangled Cruise" to the San Juan Islands requires a lot of planning and the planning is already underway. If you plan to attend any part of that cruise and can suggest places that are special to you, please let me know. Doug & Deb, Darrel & Jill, David and myself will be pouring over charts in the near future. Any input members have will be appreciated.
That is a lot to think about for this edition.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the water.
Safe boating,
Ian

Originally nautical slang denoting money collected to buy luxuries, from the sale of watery food known as slush. This from the "slush" saved (and eventually sold) by the ship's cook.
Most Suadron members and SBYC members have completed the Basic Boating Course. However, it looks quite different once you are on the water. Have you questioned, who has the right of way, what does that green buoy mean or which side of the channel should I be on? If you have questioned "on the water" situations, Training Officer, Ralph Hagen, has put together a short course called "The Practical Boater". Click here for the course outline. The first of 3 classes is just a week away and space is limited. To sign on e-mail Ralph at ralphhagen@shaw.ca or give him a call at 250 247 8491.
