After co-winning a very prestigious award at the  SBYC's Commodore's Ball you can now have full confidence in your Fleet Captain and Cruise Master, but be warned, I will be watching you all and taking notes so you too might be a winner.

I am looking ahead to two of our summer cruises. On June 18, 19, 20 & 21. The Gabriola Power Squadron will be having their second Wine Cruise & Tour to Cowichan Bay. This year the cruise is also offering a "Culinary Cruise" at the same time and place. The wine tour portion of the cruise will see our members touring up to four wineries in the Cowichan Valley and having a lunch included in the tour. The culinary portion of the cruise will see 10 of our members attending a cooking class at Fairburn Farms in the Cowichan Valley. Go to this web site for information on Fairburn Farms www.fairburnfarm.bc.ca/cooking-classes.htm. Mara, of Fairburn Farms has up together a special menu, just for boaters. Click here to see what can be done in a small galley
The cost of each tour is $99 per person and the Gabriola Power Squadron extends an invitation to all SBYC members and their families for this cruise.
I am discussing this tour now only because all bookings must be made early to secure the tour bus and the kitchen at Fairburn Farms. At this time I only ask you to express and interest in either tour. I do not need commitments for a few weeks. The Cullinary Cruise has two members booked at this time. The June 18, 19, 20 & 21 time period also involves Father's Day and the longest day of the year, just two more reasons for a good weekend on the water with good company, good food and good wine.

In looking ahead to a third cruise this summer I must mention the "Cross the Pond" Cruise on July 30, 31, Aug. 1 & 2. I had booked 6 spaces at False Creek Marina but they quickly filled and I have now booked 6 more spaces. The "Cross the Pond" cruise will involve a dinner at a fine restaurant on the Vancouver waterfront (for those who wish to attend) and will also include a spectacular view of one of the nights of the Symphony of Fire in English Bay. Present plans are to depart early Friday morning to catch the calm seas and to make our way home via Snug Cove on Bowen Island. Some of our members will then go north for a private Cruise to the Broughton's (more on that cruise to come) while the rest of us head back to Gabriola.  I mention this cruise now only because all Vancouver Marinas fill up very quickly, starting in March and I wish to get our booking in while there is plenty of space. Again, no commitment at this time but an expression of intent would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone,
As you know last year we had the St. Patrick's Day bash at Silva Bay Pub instead of cruising to Thetis Island.  Ian has arranged for this to happen again at Silva Bay on the 20th March with Bobby Smith once again entertaining us.  So we have a great evening of fun, laughter, singing etc., in store.
As Ian is still away for the time being, and because Silva Bay requires numbers in advance, I have agreed to contact everyone.   So folks, put on the green, make sure your throats are well-oiled (for singing of course!) and come down and share in the Irish shenanigans once again - it will be a blast.   If you missed it last year, be sure not to do so this year.  Have a look at the pics from the Website on last year's St. Paddy's night (on the main menu, go to Past Events and scroll down to St. Pat's Pub Night 2009).   This has traditionally been one of the most popular events of the year.
The menu will be the regular pub menu with an added dish of Irish stew.   And who knows, perhaps Green beer...........!
Please let me know as soon as possible if you plan to attend (it would be great if you could let me know one way or the other), so that I can give Ian, Bos and Silva Bay a heads up on numbers.
Thanks and Cheers,
Jenny Ireland
Vice Commodore

UPDATE ON THIS EVENT

Just a brief note to let you know that Bobby Smith has had an accident and injured his hand. As a consequence he will not be available to play for us on the 20th. There is a possible replacement by the name I believe of Terry Mulligan. He is an Irishman who has played in several Pubs in the Ladysmith area. Bobby and I will try to line him up in then next few days if possible. If not we will be looking for an alternate. If anyone of you has any suggestions please let me know.
Cheers,
Bos
